Build & Chill - Explore XR/VR capabilities
Hey!
We (the Thinkin’ Rocks nerds) are inviting you to join our building session!
This week, we’re diving into XR VR MR 🚀
You’ll get hands-on with Meta Quest 3, HoloLens 2, and Varjo XR-3 and explore what interaction, space, and reality mean beyond flat screens.
During the session, you can challenge yourself with one of our mini-challenges:
1. Invisible Interface
Design an XR interaction with no visible buttons or menus.
Use hand tracking, gaze, voice, body position, or spatial context, and make sure a first-time user understands it in under 60 seconds.
2. Spatial UX
Take a boring 2D task and make it meaningful in 3D.
Examples: file browsing, scheduling, comparing options.
Constraint: you must use space, depth, or scale in a way 2D can’t: no floating rectangles pretending to be screens!
3. XR / MR Reality Remix
Augment something in the real room so it becomes useful or playful.
Constraint: it must anchor to real-world objects and react to lighting, depth, or occlusion.
You’re also welcome to work on your own XR ideas if something else makes your eyes shine ✨
🧰 What to prepare (if you want to build, not just explore)
If you’d like to prototype during the session, we suggest installing:
• Unity Hub + Unity (for Quest HoloLens Varjo)
• XR Interaction Toolkit (Unity package)
• (Optional) Blender - for quick 3D assets
• (Optional) WebXR / Three.js if you’re more web-oriented
If you’ve never built for XR - no worries! You can:
• Sketch concepts
• Design interactions
• Test and critique experiences on the devices
🧠 No experience required
P.S. You’re welcome to come work on anything in our space on any day—just make sure to join the chat:
