Tokyo Reading Room #4

​Reading alone at home is fine. Reading alone in a park where half a dozen other people are also reading alone is, for reasons I can't fully explain, better.

​Tokyo Reading Room next meets on Saturday 26 September, 11:00 AM. We're doing this one outdoors — park to be confirmed; we'll share details a day before depending on the weather.

​The rules are short: show up, sit down, and read. We keep it quiet while we're reading, and then people usually drift into chatting for a while afterwards — which is genuinely the nicest part, but entirely optional. Leaving early is fine. Arriving late is fine, though you'll have to do the awkward little wave at the group.

​Come alone, come with a friend, come having never met a single one of us. Nobody here has known each other long. The bar for fitting in is: you own a book, and you're willing to sit on grass.

​Whatever you're reading right now is the correct book to bring. If you're not reading anything right now, that's an excellent reason to come. And if you bring something slightly embarrassing, know that at least two of us are also hiding a cover.
