Decoding Maya Glyphs

About Event
The Maya developed a complex hieroglyphic writing system, in which various symbols represent syllables, whole words, or even ideas, leaving behind prodigious amounts of writing carved in stone and drawn on paper. But without a multilingual “Roseta Stone”, which scholars had used to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics into Greek, decoding the Maya written language proved more challenging, and relied upon identifying patterns across multiple sources. In this workshop, students will, learn about the Maya, work together to solve a series of puzzles helping them decode a message, and write their name in Maya glyphs.
