About Event

Released in 2023 by CMYK games, DAYBREAK is a cooperative boardgame about stopping climate change. It presents a hopeful vision of the near future, where you get to build the mind-blowing technologies and resilient societies we need to save the planet.

Created by famed game designer Matt Leacock - the mind behind such modern classics as PANDEMIC and FORBIDDEN ISLAND - and Matteo Menapace, the two also collaborated with a team of Sustainability Experts to bring accuracy to the technology, science, policies and real-life possibilities to the game - including Ruth Meza, Transportation Planner from the Oakland Department of Transportation.

DAYBREAK was released to public and critical acclaim, enjoyed praise from such press outlets as The New York Times, Forbes, Bloomberg, and the BBC, and went on to win the prestigious 2024 Kennerspiel des Jahres Award.

For 2026 PNW Climate Week in Tacoma, we are honored to have Matt Leacock and Ruth Meza as our guests for a remote interview about the art, science, and sustainability behind the making of DAYBREAK. Our co-hosts for the evening will be game designer Korby Sears (Cranium, Forrest-Pruzan Creative, FUNKO Games, Tempest Workshop) and Climate Journalist Syris Valentine (JustProgress, Grist, Scientific American, YES! Magazine).

Venue Location in Tacoma will be announced soon!
