Cloudflare x U.S. Ski & Snowboard: The Winter Sports Challenge
Build something that could change how the world's best skiers and snowboarders train.
Cloudflare and U.S. Ski & Snowboard are teaming up for a two-week developer challenge, and we're inviting builders to tackle two real problems in competitive skiing and snowboarding.
Using real competition footage and data, you'll build tools that help athletes and coaches better understand performance. Think computer vision, AI, video analysis, and creative ways to turn raw footage into useful insights.
Choose one challenge or take on both. Build your prototype on Cloudflare, submit your project by November 2, and compete for VIP experiences at some of the biggest skiing and snowboarding events of the season.
The best projects will be selected for a finalist showcase and closing party in San Francisco on November 9!
The Challenges - STARTER PACK
Challenge 1: Snowboard Rotation Analysis 🏂
Can you teach a computer to understand a snowboard trick?
When a snowboarder launches into the air, coaches can see the trick, but measuring exactly how the rider rotates throughout the jump is much harder.
Your challenge is to build a video-analysis tool that tracks a snowboarder's rotation during aerial tricks.
Using real slopestyle and halfpipe footage, create a tool that can identify takeoff and landing, estimate rotation angles and speed, and visualize how a rider moves through the air.
The goal is to give coaches and athletes a better way to understand what's happening during a trick.
🏆 Prize: Two VIP tickets to the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Aspen Snowmass, February 27–28, 2027. Includes lift tickets and gift bags.
Snowboard Starter Pack: Footage, technical guidance, example outputs, and judging criteria.
Challenge 2: Alpine Race Telemetry ⛷️
Can you show exactly where a ski race was won or lost?
In Alpine skiing, races can be decided by hundredths of a second. But knowing who finished fastest doesn't tell coaches where an athlete gained or lost time.
Your challenge is to build a tool that turns real race footage into a live performance breakdown.
Using Super-G and Downhill footage, create video overlays showing estimated speed, elapsed time, and where a skier is gaining or losing time compared to another run.
Think of it as building a live analytics dashboard directly on top of a ski race.
🏆 Prize: Two VIP tickets to the FIS Ski World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, March 20–21, 2027. Includes lift tickets and gift bags.
Alpine Telemetry Starter Pack: Race footage, sample data, technical guidance, example outputs, and judging criteria.
How It Works
1. Pick your challenge. Choose Snowboard Rotation Analysis, Alpine Race Telemetry, or both. Each starter pack includes real competition footage, technical context, and guidance on what to build.
2. Build on Cloudflare. Create a working prototype using whichever tools make sense for your project. You can use Workers, Pages, R2, Workers AI, AI Gateway, or other Cloudflare developer products.
3. Submit by November 2. Share your GitHub repository, a link to your deployed prototype, and a short explanation of what you built. SUBMIT HERE.
4. Show us what you've got. Projects will be reviewed by the Cloudflare and U.S. Ski & Snowboard teams. Selected finalists will be invited to our in-person showcase and closing party in San Francisco, where winning projects will be announced.
You don't need to be a skiing or snowboarding expert to participate. We've put together starter packs to help you understand the sports, the footage, and what a successful prototype could look like.
Important Dates
October 19: Challenge begins!
November 2: Project submission deadline
November 9, 5–8 PM PT: Finalist showcase, judging, and closing party in San Francisco
The challenge is virtual and open to eligible participants regardless of location. Finalists will receive invitations and event details after submissions are reviewed. In-person attendance is not required for a project to be considered.
The Finalist Showcase
We're bringing together the builders behind the best projects, along with the Cloudflare and U.S. Ski & Snowboard teams, for a closing celebration in San Francisco.
Space is limited, so attendance is by invitation only for selected finalists. Remote finalists will remain eligible for judging and prizes.
