Cloudflare x U.S. Ski & Snowboard SF Happy Hour
Build something that could change how the world’s best skiers and snowboarders train.
Join Cloudflare and U.S. Ski & Snowboard in San Francisco on November 9 for the launch party of a new winter sports technical challenge for builders.
Cloudflare and U.S. Ski & Snowboard are teaming up to invite developers to build tools using real ski and snowboard footage/data. The goal is to explore how AI, computer vision, video analysis, and Cloudflare’s developer platform can help athletes and coaches turn competition footage into useful training insights.
At the launch party, we’ll introduce the challenge, walk through the two technical tracks, explain the available footage/data, and share how participants can build and submit projects on Cloudflare.
The Challenges - STARTER PACK
Participants can choose one challenge track or build for both. Each track includes real competition footage/data, sport-specific context, technical guidance, and example outputs to help builders understand the problem space.
Challenge 1: Snowboard Rotation Analysis 🏂
Can you teach a computer to understand a snowboard trick?
When a snowboarder launches into the air, coaches can see the trick, but measuring exactly how the rider rotates throughout the jump is much harder.
Your challenge is to build a video-analysis tool that tracks a snowboarder’s rotation during aerial tricks. Using real slopestyle and halfpipe footage, participants can identify takeoff and landing, estimate rotation angles and speed, and visualize how a rider moves through the air.
The goal is to give coaches and athletes a better way to understand what happens during a trick.
🏆 Prize: Two VIP tickets to the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Aspen Snowmass, February 27–28, 2027. Includes lift tickets and gift bags.
Snowboard Starter Pack: Footage, technical guidance, example outputs, and judging criteria.
Challenge 2: Alpine Race Telemetry ⛷️
Can you show exactly where a ski race was won or lost?
In Alpine skiing, races can be decided by hundredths of a second. But knowing who finished fastest does not tell coaches where an athlete gained or lost time.
Your challenge is to build a tool that turns real race footage into a live performance breakdown. Using Super-G and Downhill footage, participants can create video overlays showing estimated speed, elapsed time, and where a skier is gaining or losing time compared to another run.
Think of it as building a live analytics dashboard directly on top of ski race footage.
🏆 Prize: Two VIP tickets to the FIS Ski World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, March 20–21, 2027. Includes lift tickets and gift bags
Alpine Telemetry Starter Pack: Race footage, sample data, technical guidance, example outputs, and judging criteria.
How It Works
1. Join the launch party. Learn about the challenge, the available footage/data, the two technical tracks, and what a successful prototype could look like.
2. Pick your challenge. Choose Snowboard Rotation Analysis, Alpine Race Telemetry, or both.
3. Build and deploy on Cloudflare. Create a working prototype using whichever Cloudflare tools make sense for your project. You can use Workers, Pages, R2, Workers AI, AI Gateway, or other Cloudflare developer products.
4. Submit your project by November 30. Share your GitHub repository, a link to your deployed prototype, and a short explanation of what you built.
You do not need to be a skiing or snowboarding expert to participate. We’ve put together starter packs to help you understand the sports, the footage, and what a useful prototype could look like.
Important Dates
November 9, 5–8 PM PT: Challenge launch party in San Francisco
November 30: Project submissions due
Winners will be selected after submissions are reviewed.
The Launch Party
We’re bringing together developers, Cloudflare, and U.S. Ski & Snowboard for a launch party in San Francisco.
Attendees will learn about the challenge, the real footage/data available to builders, the athlete and coaching problems behind each track, and how to participate.
Space is limited, so please RSVP if you plan to attend.
Challenge winners will receive VIP tickets to marquee ski and snowboard events this coming winter, consolation winners will compete for a combined $80K in Cloudflare credits.
