Open Source: US Playbook
If you’re a young Australian and truly ambitious, it’s very likely you are considering or have considered a move to the US. But how does one translate this intention into actually making it happen? What visa do you need? Should you drop out and just move? Where should you stay and where should you avoid? What is the ‘Tenderloin’? How do you find other Aussies or founders or philosophers to meet?
At NextGen Ventures, we’ve had the privilege of supporting 17+ portfolio companies, including half a dozen portfolio companies on their move to the US. Whether they stay for 2 weeks or move for an accelerator like Y Combinator (as four have done) or settle indefinitely, we’ve seen it all. Now, we feel it is important to share our learnings with the wider community.

Who is this for?
Whether you’re already building and thinking about when to make the move, or still working out whether the US is right for you, this session is for those who are legitimately considering the move. By bringing together a small, high quality room of ambitious Australians who want to build beyond Australia and are serious about what it takes to go global, then in a dream scenario, you might end up meeting your future house mate, co-founder, collaborator, or something in between.
In short, we have two sharp objectives for attendees:
Understand how to make the move: From scoping trips and visas to where to stay, who to meet and how to navigate San Francisco.
Understand how to win once you’re there: Hear years of experience firsthand and understand what it takes to build, and succeed, in the US over the long term.
