Caleb Stein, Down by the Hudson Exhibition
During Paris Photo 2026 week, Sixteen Photography Collection is pleased to present Down by the Hudson, an exhibition by Caleb Stein bringing together fourteen prints from the artist’s acclaimed body of work.
Made over several years in Poughkeepsie, New York, the series centres on a local watering hole—a place of gathering, ritual, escape and quiet transformation. Set against the backdrop of a post-industrial American town, Stein’s photographs move beyond documentary observation into a more suspended register, where landscape, bodies, adolescence and memory seem to converge.
Grounded in proximity and trust, the images reflect the relationships Stein developed through repeatedly returning to the same place. The creek becomes both a physical site and a psychological space—a refuge, a stage and a threshold—where gestures of play, tenderness and vulnerability take on an almost mythic dimension.
On November 15, Stein will be joined by Emilia Mickevicius, Norton Family Assistant Curator at the Center for Creative Photography (CCP), for a conversation about the work and the exhibition.
