Skills Are the Last Layer: Turn an SOP Into a Governed AI Action

​Most AI skills disappoint for the same reason: they were built first.

​A team writes a clever prompt, creates a custom GPT or installs an agent, then points it at an empty business. The result sounds capable but lacks the company knowledge, operating rules and permission boundaries required to do useful work.

​A skill is the final layer of the AI operating system. Architecture gives AI somewhere coherent to live. Context gives it the right information and tools for the task. The company brain supplies the institutional knowledge it can rely on. A skill turns one repeatable SOP into a governed action: a clear trigger, defined inputs, ordered steps, permitted tools, a human approval point and a definition of done.

​Or, more simply: the skill is the verb; the context is the noun.

​In this practical 45-minute workshop, Zac King will show why skills should come last, unpack the anatomy of a useful skill and demonstrate a real Works skill from defined input to finished output, with its action and approval boundaries visible.

​Then we will apply the same framework to one attendee's real process.

​Bring one SOP or repeated task with a recognisable starting point and outcome. It can be formal, messy or currently living in someone's head.

​You will leave with a first-pass skill specification and one practical next step: build the narrow version, strengthen what sits underneath it or keep the task human for now.
