Climate Picnic
Building a better future for our planet starts with building a better community. Climate Action Club is a Bay Area group where we connect with fellow climate-minded folks, learn about the root causes of the climate crisis, and take meaningful local action together.
We know that showing up to new spaces can feel a little intimidating—that’s why we’re creating a warm, low-pressure environment where you can bring your full self. Let’s talk about what local climate action can look like—right here, right now—and how we can support one another in shaping a more just, sustainable future from the ground up.
📍What to Expect
This is a potluck-style picnic—bring a blanket, some of your favorite vegetarian or vegan snacks and nonalcoholic drinks to share!
🕚 Schedule
2:00PM - 2:30PM: Casual chatting and new people intros
2:30PM-3:15PM: Small group conversations around local climate topics
3:15PM - 4:00PM: Relax, snack, and connect with new friends
💬 Discussion Topic: The War, The Ceasefire, and Our Future With so much happening globally, it can be hard to know where our local community fits into the bigger picture. We’re opening up a space today to talk about the current conflict. We want to explore what it looks like to make our opposition known and how we can gently but firmly strip away the "political permission" for further escalation, starting right here in our own backyard.
The Power of "No": Politicians often feel they have permission to escalate when they don’t hear enough pushback from home. What are some specific ways we can make it harder for leaders to justify continuing this path once the ceasefire ends?
Making it Visible: National leaders often act based on what they think the "quiet majority" will tolerate. How can we make our opposition more visible in our own neighborhoods so it’s clear the Bay Area isn't staying silent?
The Narrative Flip: The current rhetoric is all about "victory." How do we talk to our friends and family about this conflict in a way that centers humanity and climate stability instead? What stories can we use to make peace feel like the stronger, more logical path?
Local Leverage: If we want to make this a political liability for those representing us, what is one "meaningful local action" we could take together this month to show we aren't buying the war narrative?
