There's an inner Gollum in all of us. We wants it to scale, precious. We needs the product-market fit. Filthy little hobbyistses.
Let go.
Gmail started as a 20% project. DeepSeek started as a hedge fund's research playground. The Homebrew Computer Club was a demo night when some guy called Woz showed up with what became the Apple I. When you make stuff because you just want to, you break out of productivity min-maxing and stumble into things no roadmap would approve.
And sure, recruiters have caught on too: these days they skip the resume and open your "play" section first.
Yes, we know. It's scary to make something "just because". We've been trained to be useful. To be hireable. To justify the hours.
Side Quest is one evening where nobody asks about the precious. Ask anything else. Show us the thing.
Food is free. Drinks are free. Sméagol is welcome. Leave Gollum at home.
What will the event look like?
Doors open at 7pm, first demo kicks off at 7:30pm.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided so come with an open mind and an open belly.
If you're demoing a side project:
5 minutes each, no slides needed.
Bring your messy Figma file, scribbled notes, and what came out of it.
In our past event, we had demos like a cozy puzzle game, and tiny apps/sites people built to scratch their own itch.
If you wish to showcase something you've built, indicate so in the registration form!
