Mobilising Capital for Adaptation: Aligning Science, Policy, Insurance, and Multilateral Finance
The impacts of climate change have increased, and projections show that the impacts will only become more frequent and severe. This has significant impacts on communities, infrastructure, public health and businesses.
Unlocking financing for adaptation and resilience will be a key enabler of climate action, since strengthening resilience requires greater investments in adaptation measures, resilient infrastructure, health systems and community preparedness. Governments, financial institutions, insurers and development partners each have an important role to play in identifying, assessing and managing climate-related risks, and in mobilising capital towards resilience outcomes. Greater collaboration across science, policy, healthcare, insurance and finance communities can help strengthen the evidence base, improve risk pricing and support the development of investable resilience solutions.
The session will bring together representatives from across the ecosystem of government, academia, the financial sector, insurance industry and healthcare community to discuss how science, policy, insurance and finance can be better aligned to mobilise capital for climate adaptation and resilience. Drawing on emerging insights on climate and health in Asia, the discussion will explore how stronger risk assessment, financial innovation and cross-sector partnerships can support investments in climate-resilient communities, health systems and infrastructure and accelerate the transition from ambition to implementation.
