Creative Writing: dis(comfort)

​Where writing opens the door to dialogue and meaning.

​Our themes always stem from an embodied, felt sensation. As winter settles in and darkness claims more of the city, we naturally gravitate toward warmth: glowing heaters, rich comfort food, heavy blankets, hot showers, and steaming mugs of cocoa. We reach for solace.

​Wednesday’s conversation approaches comfort through two distinct lenses:
- First, we look at the mounting pressures of modern life that drive us to seek refuge from sold-out stadium tours of our childhood bands to nostalgic meals suddenly appearing on every trendy menu. We reach for comfort because the world demands it.
- Second, we ask: can comfort go too far? Can it stifle personal growth? At what point does a veneer of ease simply trap us in the endless cycle of our society of service which requires more and more consumption?

​In this 90-minute creative writing workshop, we invite you to pause and examine your relationship with both comfort and discomfort. Through guided prompts, you will put pen to paper to uncover what ease and unease truly mean to you.

​We begin by settling into our bodies and the present moment, then structured exercises will spark self-inquiry and creative expression followed by an optional sharing circle (a safe space to read your words aloud). We will close with a meditation to ground the experience.

​No writing experience needed just curiosity and an open mind.
