Welcome to Rust Meetup Fall 2026. 🦀🍁
After a great first meetup, we’re back for a second edition, bringing together the Rust community in Athens for another evening of talks and networking.
Agenda
We’ll have three 20-minute talks exploring different areas of Rust.
1. Python on the outside, Rust on the inside: building webrockets
Konstantinos Artopoulos
Webrockets is a fast and ergonomic WebSocket library for Python written in Rust. This talk walks through its design, including where the GIL is acquired, how work is split between Tokio and Python’s event loop, and why synchronous handlers ended up faster than async ones.
2. Teaching Turso when to yield with io_uring
Paris Kasidiaris
We’ll show how we customised Turso, a SQLite rewrite in Rust, to wait and yield with io_uring on one thread. We’re building Fakos, a new OpenTelemetry server, on it—targeting thousands of durable writes per second alongside dashboard reads on that same thread.
3. Do not t(Rust) AI
Nikos Sfakianakis
In an era where AI writes most of our code, many mistakes fly under the radar, especially for new Rust developers who don’t yet know what to look for. This beginner-friendly talk will walk through specific examples of these issues, the background needed to understand them, and how to fix them.
