Play_grounds: Reimagining play By WMASN

​Through conversation and making, this is a workshop that explores ideas of play and play spaces beyond the western canon.

​Drawing on Nigerian and West African traditional games, cultural values and experiences of play, participants are invited to reimagine what playgrounds and playfulness could look like when shaped through different cultural lenses.

​This is facilitated by WMASN, a collective that explores Nigerian architectures through design to stimulate conversations around culturally suitable spaces.

​This workshop centred around what it means to activate public spaces through play, encouraging attendees to share their own knowledge of what play can be and ways we can take space in the built environment. Share, reimagine and experiment using zines, card and clay to create your own speculative playground. There are no fixed rules, only that you use the time to create, design with no boundaries in mind.

​About WMASN

​Moyo Adebayo is an architectural designer, curator, and researcher interested in designing culturally responsive spaces. He does this by sparking interest in vernacular architecture within communities through critical designs and collaborative practices. This led him to WMASN, a collective that creates exhibitions that explore different Nigerian architectures to stimulate conversations around culturally suitable design. He has been able to work with the likes of RIBA, Zaha Hadid foundation, AHMM and more.
