Guest Talk: Inside AI’s Memory – Mechanisms, Measurement, and Mitigation of Memorization

Memorization in foundation models raises serious privacy and IP concerns. This talk presents fine-grained metrics to measure memorization across vision encoders, CLIP-style models, and diffusion models. It reveals which neurons trigger memorized outputs and shows how targeted pruning prevents verbatim reproduction while preserving performance. Finally, it addresses whether memorization is localized in model parameters—presenting evidence that it is not.
