Exhibition Opening Reception: Combinatorium
Join us for the opening of Combinatorium on Thursday, April 9th, 6-9 p.m. at Automat Collective.
Combinatorium features the work of UPenn MFA candidates Michael D’Ippolito, Ana González Garduño, and Jingyi Ling. This is the 26th exhibition in The Incubation Series and is co-curated by UPenn art history graduate students, Nina Huang, Rachel Salem-Wiseman, and Zino Adjroud.

About Combinatorium
In the Combinatorium, preexisting objects re-assemble in their afterlives. Their fragments combine and reconfigure time and space, producing new connections with one another. Combinatorium presents the amalgamation of these disparate parts as a site-responsive alchemy. The exhibition features the work of UPenn MFA candidates Michael D’Ippolito, Ana González Garduño, and Jingyi Ling. The artists fuse industrial parts and biological phenomena in an embodied process of transmutation, capturing fragmentary composites mid-metaphorphosis. Their negotiation of formal constraints becomes a method to generate chimeric sculptures.

About the Artists
Michael D’Ippolito (b. White Plains, NY) works between New York City and Philadelphia. He earned his BFA from The Cooper Union in 2017.
Ana González Garduño (b. Mexico City, 1999) is a Mexican artist based in Philadelphia and New York. Her portfolio consists mainly of drawings and sculptures. She received her BFA from The Cooper Union in 2023.
Jingyi Ling is an interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia, PA. She works with sculpture, installation, and performance. Her research investigates the tension between power and space and collects moments of self-sovereignty in conceptual, spatial, and phenomenological ways. She received her B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design in 2023.
