About Event

Original Intelligence is a casual discussion group hosted by The Leakey Foundation that explores how human intelligence evolved and what that tells us about AI.

Everyone is encouraged to listen to/watch this podcast episode prior to the event:

Podcast: Joseph Henrich — Humans defeated smarter species with cultural evolution

When you arrive, look for the Original Intelligence sign. We'll be at one of the picnic tables.

What's this podcast about?
Harvard evolutionary anthropologist Joseph Henrich discusses collective intelligence: how humans got smart by learning from each other, and what that means for AI. He argues that our collective intelligence allowed humans to outlast species with bigger brains, and that AI may be the next great cultural learner.

Questions on the table:
- Henrich argues that our intelligence really lives in the group, not the individual. AI is trained on an enormous amount of human knowledge. Is that collective intelligence, or something else entirely?
- Where does your knowledge actually live, in your head or in your network?
- What happens to humans' collective intelligence as AI takes over more of our thinking?

What is Original Intelligence?
For each event, we listen to/read a short podcast or article about the intersection of intelligence, evolution, and AI, meet up at a local watering hole, and talk about it with other science and tech enthusiasts. No lectures, no slides, no expertise required. Come curious and bring a friend.
