Igbo in the Digital Age

Making Our Language Visible, Audible, and Accessible

Featuring Nollywood legend Pete Edochie and Igbo music sensation Ugoccie.

Imagine asking Siri to play your favorite Igbo song, only to discover it cannot understand you. Or creating a video in Igbo and realizing the technology that automatically captions dozens of other languages cannot caption yours.

For more than 30 million Igbo speakers, these aren't hypothetical problems. They raise a much bigger question:

Will Igbo have a place in the digital future?

On November 21, we're bringing that conversation to the forefront.

Special Guest Features

Pete Edochie | Nollywood Legend & Cultural Icon

One of Africa's most celebrated actors, whose remarkable career has helped bring Igbo culture and storytelling to audiences across generations, lends his influential voice to the movement for Igbo language inclusion.

Ugoccie | Singer, Songwriter & Igbo Music Artist

One of the exciting voices in contemporary Igbo music, bringing a creator's perspective to the conversation about language, cultural expression, and the challenges of navigating digital platforms that do not adequately support Igbo.

The Igbo in Tech Roundtable

Hosted by TokataHQ, this 90-minute virtual roundtable brings together Igbo creators, AI and technology professionals, researchers, and community voices to explore why Igbo remains missing from so many everyday technologies—and what it will take to change that.

What to expect:

  • Perspectives from influential Igbo cultural voices and creators.

  • Conversations about the economic and cultural impact of digital language exclusion.

  • Insights into how technology companies approach language inclusion.

  • An opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and contribute to the conversation.

This is more than a conversation about preserving our language. It's about ensuring Igbo is heard, understood, and supported in the technologies shaping our future.
