Sausal Creek Nature Walk with Hiking by Transit & Friends of Sausal Creek

​Join Evan Tschuy, the founder of Hiking by Transit, for a nature hike with Russell Huddleston, board member of Friends of Sausal Creek!

Sausal Creek is located right in Oakland's backyard, running down from Joaquin Miller Park through Dimond Canyon and to the Bay through backyards in the Dimond District and Fruitvale.

On this nature hike, we'll take AC Transit #18 to the Bridgeview Dr trailhead, near the landmark Leimert Bridge. From there, we'll follow the upper canyon and creek up into the redwoods to the Woodminster Cascade in Joaquin Miller Park. Along the way, we'll hear about the native plants and animals of the Sausal Creek Watershed, and about the work being done to restore and enhance the area.

This hike is 2.5-3 miles, and we'll be going slow to take in the sights and sounds of the forest around us. There is approximately 700ft of altitude gain, with steps in some places.

Schedule

* 9:50am: meet at 13th & Broadway bus stop
* 10:02am: catch AC Transit #18 bus
* 10:17am: get off bus at Park Blvd & Leimert Blvd
* walk to trailhead (approximately 8 minutes)
* nature hike! (1-2 hours)

On our way back, we'll catch AC Transit #31 bus at Joaquin Miller Dr & Crane Way. This bus runs every half hour, and we should get to Fruitvale BART around 1pm.
