Crafted in California

​Featuring 12 California-based artists, designers, and makers, Crafted in California explores how the state’s materials, skills, industrial histories, and systems of knowledge shape the work made within it. Each object is independently handcrafted or developed in close collaboration with local fabricators, workshops, and industries, reflecting the particular resources and expertise that have taken root across California.

Rather than searching for a singular aesthetic, the exhibition traces a network of relationships, between designer and maker, material and process, inherited knowledge and new invention. Together, the works reveal the state as an active participant in making, a landscape shaped by natural resources, industrial histories, local expertise, and a culture of experimentation.
