Ricky Jobs x Lovers Unite Open Studio

​Lovers Unite and Ricky Swallow are excited to co-host ricky jobs, an exhibition of prototypes, drawings, models, material studies, custom hardware, and ephemera. All the material in this presentation extends from our years-long collaboration with artist couple Ricky Swallow and artist Lesley Vance on their home in Laurel Canyon.

​Lovers Unite served as architect and designer on the down-to-the-studs reimagining of the couple’s mid-century home. The project brought together materiality and composition with the practical rhythms of family life, making room for art, books, records, and the habits of collecting. Swallow brought his own artistry and connoisseurship to every scale of the project, from larger architectural ideas to hardware, joinery, finishes, and a long list of highly specific details.

​ricky jobs brings that process into view through the things made, tested, revised, and reconsidered along the way.

​The show’s name comes from something uttered on-site, mid-build: “No more Ricky jobs.”

​There were, of course, more Ricky jobs.
