Tethics & Chill [online]: After America's AI Action Plan w/ former Senior White House Policy Advisor Dean Ball
Dean had an interesting trajectory. The former Senior Policy Advisor for AI and Emerging Tech essentially wrote his way into the White House — a credit to Substack's business model and perhaps to your ambitions of quitting the daily grind to blog for a living.
But, not so fast. Writing America's AI Action Plan — the nation's most sweeping AI policy initiative to date — was no mere exercise in repurposing content. President Trump returned to the Oval Office with a lot of eyes on his plans for AI. So delivering this policy document was in many ways the main event of his first 100 days.
Producing a cogent answer to some of the most hotly contested priorities facing the administration involved steering a massive bureaucracy, navigating byzantine federal rules just to conduct crucial research conversations with people at frontier AI labs, and wading through some 10,000 stakeholder comments.
The AI Action Plan is an unapologetically bullish vision for the future, and drafted by one of AI’s most reflective and balanced observers. Want to talk to Dean about his experience, his thoughts on AI, and where the nation (and companies) should focus next? See you at our next Tethics & Chill!
Stay tethical,
Anastasia
