About Event

Join the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and the Reykjavík Institute as we bring together scientists, policymakers, funders and ocean-observing practitioners for a focused discussion on how we can better coordinate the evidence, infrastructure and partnerships needed to understand a changing North Atlantic.

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is a critical component of the climate system, yet major observational gaps remain. This session will bring together people working across ocean science, climate policy, funding and observing-system design to consider what we need to observe, where the priorities lie, and how we can connect existing and emerging efforts into a more coherent ocean observing network.

Agenda

  • Scientific briefing: the latest evidence, emerging priorities and perspectives from recent community discussions

  • Policy perspective: the policy context and decision needs around ocean and climate observing

  • Funder's update from ARIA: ARIA’s Forecasting Tipping Points current solicitation, its goals and opportunities for coordinated action

  • Panel discussion and Q&A: moderated by Páll Gunnarsson, Reykjavík Institute, exploring the key observational gaps, what we need to measure, and how to bring existing efforts together

Further speaker details will be announced shortly.
