Public Lecture: Daniel Grilli, All over (the) a place: urban form, experience and public good

​Nobody seems to talk about what we might call ‘urbanism’ in Adelaide. Aside from press releases from developers or government, there is little debate on what we can consider the ‘living’ fragment of the city. This lecture will explore urban form and experience from the perspective of an architect interested in our relationship to place and the question of public good. How can we learn from recent developments such as Bowden? How can we create better neighbourhoods and communities that privilege place? How can architects contribute to public good through other ways than simply building. Urban design yes, but also advocacy and criticism.

​Daniel is an architect working primarily in education and civic design. In his architecture, his interests include narrative, human movement  a deep curiosity and respect for the stories behind the people and places of the projects he works on. Prior to studying architecture Daniel worked in the wine industry and holds a degree in Viticulture and Oenology, maintaining hands-on involvement in his family business. As well as the knowledge of processing and production facilities this provides, it also allowed Daniel to develop an appreciation of the important interconnection between landscape, people and buildings. As a passionate advocate for cycling and walking, Daniel approaches both his personal life and professional projects to maximise opportunities to promote vibrant and healthy cities and communities.
