Community Leadership Conversation
Wednesday, August 26, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Artesia Public School Administration Building | 301 Bulldog Blvd., Artesia, NM 88210

Established in 2019, the NMPWRC unites universities, government agencies, nonprofits, and industry partners to advance science‑based research supporting the safe, responsible, and sustainable management of produced water from oil and gas operations. The Consortium’s work fills in critical scientific and research gaps, informing regulatory decision‑making around fit‑for‑purpose reuse of produced water, ensuring that the treated water is protective of human health and the environment.

Since its inception, NMPWRC has supported a robust research portfolio resulting in more than 30 peer‑reviewed publications. Recent pilot‑scale projects using real produced water have demonstrated encouraging non‑toxic results across multiple biological endpoints, while reinforcing the need for continued research on performance, scalability, and application‑specific use.

What to Expect

  • Overview of current challenges and opportunities in produced water treatment and reuse

  • Key research milestones and outcomes

  • Updates from pilot‑scale systems operating in the field

  • Insights on how NMPWRC research is informing regional and national efforts

Produced water management remains a complex and evolving issue for New Mexico. Your participation helps ensure that research remains responsive to real‑world needs and supports informed, science‑based decision‑making.
