​You open your phone “just to check something” and surface twenty minutes later, not quite sure what you just looked at. Your trading app “democratizes finance” but somehow nudges you into more and faster bets. Your work, your feeds, even your “productivity tools” are full of red dots, streaks, leaderboards, and FOMO.

​This talk is about how we engineered that world on purpose, through the incentives built into apps, markets, companies and institutions, and what it would look like to start pushing back.
