We’re opening Darda(she)’s second season with ‘Against White Feminism’ by Rafia Zakaria – a book that asks uncomfortable but necessary questions about the feminism we inherit: who gets centred, whose experiences become universal, and how race, class and colonialism shape feminist movements.
Because feminism, too, isn’t immune to the hierarchies it seeks to dismantle. Who gets to define what freedom looks like? When does solidarity turn into speaking on someone else’s behalf? Across cultures, languages and diasporas, these questions hit close to home.
One book, three conversations 💬
Over three gatherings, we’ll unpack Zakaria’s critique of white feminism and explore how we might practise solidarity differently. We’ll read together, exchange perspectives, and bring our own experiences into conversation with the book – making room for disagreement, complexity and new ways of holding difference without flattening it.
No academic background required. Just the willingness to read, question and think together.

PART 1 – On Foundations & Disruptions
📖 Introduction + Chapters 1-2
For this first session of the book club we’ll be joined by Esra Nesipoğulları, a Turkish artist based in Italy whose practice moves between language, drawing, code and textiles. Her work explores how meaning is made, how inherited structures can be questioned, and what it takes to rebuild from the ground up.
Together, we’ll read against the grain, question what we take for granted, and explore what happens when Zakaria’s arguments meet our own worlds — with a little unlearning and plenty of room for unexpected connections ☕️💜
Yalla, see you there ✨
