Beyond Vibe Coding: Let's Connect Some Fun APIs

​What's an API?

​Oh hey, glad you asked. It's the way apps connect to things. Your app requests something, the API sends something back. Want weather data? Send a request to a weather API. Want data on a niche character in the Marvel Universe? Yep, also send a request to an API, the Marvel API to be exact.

​So What's This Workshop About?

​It's about connecting apps you make with APIs. But we are going to make it more fun than just getting some boring data.

​Though, by the end, if you want to connect boring data to your app (cuz that probably is pretty valuable), then this will give you the foundation to do it.

​And hopefully instead of being constrained to what Zapier, Make, or n8n give you access to you, anything with an API becomes a possibility. 🪄

​How's The Event Going to Go?

​First, we'll walk you through how to connect to APIs, the basics, what's possible, and best practices for integrating this into your app. We gotta crawl to run (or something like that).

​Then we are going make it fun.

​We're curating a lot of unique APIs that you can get data from. And it's your turn to be creative. Come up with some quirky way to use them. Heck, use more than just one and combine them.

​We'll spend ~1.5 hours building. Myself (hi, it's Jeff) and a couple others will be walking around the room to help out.

​Then, we'll ask for volunteers to demo. We'll be awed, maybe laugh a little (extra points for entertaining demos!), and hopefully come away energized by APIs. Trophies may be given (not participation trophies, though!).

​What's the Schedule?

​5:30pm: Doors open. Come hang, meet others, and settle in.
6:00pm: Welcome and 'How to API' demo.
6:30pm: We all build.
8:00pm: Demo, vote, trophies, and say our goodbyes 👋.
