Contribution Day - December 2026

Registration
Welcome! To join the event, please register below.
About Event

The contribution day is a chance for anyone to contribute to LocalGov Drupal and to Drupal in general - whether you write code, create content, or are just curious and want to get involved for the first time.

It is also a chance to scratch your own itch and to get help with changes you want to see, whether that's fixing a bug, changing existing functionality, or bringing new functionality to the project.

How the day works

We'll run 3–4 workstreams that you can join based on your interests and skills. We'll come together three times during the day to share progress and regroup. Experienced contributors will be on hand to help anyone working on their first issue.

Proposed workstreams

Accessibility
Work through accessibility issues in the LGD backlog. Primarily for developers, but a great way to make a real difference to the people who use council websites.

LocalGov Drupal backlog
Focused development on key issues and features in the LGD backlog. We'll agree on 2–3 priorities on the day (at our last Dev Days, for example, we aimed to ship a stable release of LocalGov Elections). First-time contributors are very welcome – there will be people available to help you work through your first issue.

Microsites backlog
Focused development on the LGD Microsites product, including fixing issues and writing missing documentation.

Documentation
Help migrate content from our current docs site into the new LGD site. This workstream is primarily for content designers and editors – no technical knowledge needed, though some front-end developer support may be helpful. The new site is adopting a design system approach, so this is a chance to help shape how LGD content is structured going forward.

Working on your own thing

If you'd rather spend the day working on something of your own related to LocalGov Drupal, that's absolutely fine too. The contribution day is about giving people the space and the company to get things done.

Programme:

  • 9.00am meet and settle in

  • Welcome talk explaining the day at 10am

  • Contribution time from 10.30

  • Come back together at 12.45pm to do a quick standup to find out what’s happened

  • 1:00pm LUNCH

  • Come back when you want

  • Final recap at 4pm

Additional info for devs

The LocalGov Drupal Contribution Day is an opportunity for anyone to get involved in contributing to LocalGov Drupal, whether you are an experienced Drupal developer or completely new to drupal.org

We have some hopes for the day but primarily it’s about what you want to work on.

Look at the issue queue (link to follow) for the day and think about what you’d like to work on (you may already know)

We assume for code contributions

  • You have your own computer

  • You have some experience with Drupal

  • You have some familiarity with git

How the day will run

We’ll split into groups to work through projects and issues (mostly self-organised on the day). We’ll come together 3 times during the day to see how everyone’s getting on

We will have experienced people on hand to help first-time contributors on the day.

Preparation for the day:

  • Please join the dedicated Slack channel for the event  - #dev-days-lgd

  • Make sure you have a drupal.org account and have set up your organisation (message on #group-technical to ask someone to verify your profile before you create your org)

  • A local working development environment is recommended.

    • We recommend DDEV

  • A fresh install of LocalGov Drupal, see https://www.drupal.org/project/localgov

  • Have a look at the issue queue for the day and think about what you’d like to work on. If you have a clear idea, let us know in the #dev-days-lgd channel on Slack.

If you have questions about the day or anything in this email, please don’t hesitate to reach out in advance of the day on #dev-days-lgd channel on Slack.
