Talk: Cloud Structures: Creating Global AI Governance
As AI systems become more capable and increasingly agentic, there is growing urgency around building effective technical AI governance and new institutions to support it. This talk explores promising approaches to both, highlights current trends in AI governance, and draws on historical examples of technological governance. It also distinguishes technical AI governance from the more commonly discussed problems of alignment and control.
About the speaker:
Robert F. Trager is Co-Director of the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, International Governance Lead at the Centre for the Governance of AI, and Senior Research Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. His work focuses on AI governance, emerging technology regulation, and international cooperation. Before Oxford, he was a professor at UCLA and also held positions at Yale and Harvard.
