Joins us in North Berkeley for an afternoon on art as a way of working — what it takes to grow something, whether a material, a company, a practice, or a self, and what the body understands before the mind catches up.
Our featured guest is, Sophia Wang, a multidisciplinary artist, dancer, poet, and co-founder of MycoWorks. Her work with mycelium has been recognized by the United Nations, Inc. Magazine, and the World Design Congress. Across those same years she danced for Tino Sehgal, Jerome Bel, Xavier Le Roy, and co-founded the Brontez Purnell Dance Company. She co-produced Heavy Breathing, a Bay Area discussion and movement workshop series featuring over 45 presenting artists working at the intersection of performance, visual arts and pedagogy. Her somatic works have been presented at SFMOMA, The Broad, and BAMPFA. She holds a PhD from UC Berkeley in experimental American poetry.
Sophia will lead a creative experience made for this group. There will be some movement — nothing performed, nothing you need training for.
We'll enjoy a picnic spread prepared by Chef Ming Ming, with a full bar of non-alcoholic drinks.
