About Event

โ€‹๐Ÿš€ Sentio
Sentio is an initiative building the digital minds field in London & beyond. We host the Sentio Series - fortnightly London events, each combining a talk, Q&A, and networking. Talks are from leading and emerging researchers, exploring technical, governance and ethical questions in areas such as AI consciousness, sentience, agency, and welfare. A home for Londoners working on or interested in digital minds to gather regularly.

Richard Dawkins thinks Claude is conscious. AI welfare groups are concerned about ChatGPT suffering. Anthropic just announced that Claude has a 'global workspace', which many argue is the substrate of access consciousness. But how can we actually know whether LLMs have consciousness?

In this event, Megan Peters will be exploring these issues. Megan is a Lecturer in Computational Cognition at UCL and an Associate Professor at UCI. She is President and co-founder of the educational enterprise Neuromatch and scientific director of its AI Sentience Scholars program, an advisor to several organisations, including PRISM, and a Fellow in the CIFAR Brain, Mind & Consciousness program. She holds a PhD from UCLA.
