AI for Nonprofits with Claude: A Hands-On Workshop Day
Nonprofits are increasingly being asked to do more with less. Artificial intelligence can drive huge efficiency gains, but if used irresponsibly it could harm your reputation and possibly even the people you serve.
This training is all about how to understand and practically work with AI in a responsible manner using Anthropic's Claude models. Bring a laptop and work on your own organization's materials (or our sample nonprofit kit), with help on the spot when you get stuck. Attendance is capped at 20 people.
You'll leave with:
A draft AI use policy ready for your board
A reusable grant-writing skill built around your mission, programs, and voice
At least one automated workflow set up for your organization
Morning (9:00-12:30): Foundations
Learn how AI models work, in a nutshell, and why they're sometimes confident but wrong
Know when not to use AI, and how to protect sensitive data when you do
Draft an AI use policy that holds up to board scrutiny
Practice prompting techniques that get reliable results
Compare Claude models and effort settings on quality, speed, and cost
Lunch (12:30-1:30)
On your own.
Afternoon (1:30-5:00): Workflow Lab
Research foundations that fit your work with the Candid connector
Draft a grant proposal from your existing materials, tailored to a specific funder's priorities
Build a reusable grant-writing skill that captures your mission, programs, and voice
Find lapsed donors in sample donor data and draft individualized appeals with Claude Cowork
Turn program data into board and impact reports
Set up scheduled workflows, like weekly gift acknowledgment drafts and a monthly board update
