Advancing the Climate and Health Governance Nexus through Effective Climate Advice
Event hosted in partnership between the International Climate Councils Network and the South African Presidential Climate Commission.
Join us to explore how climate councils, the official advisory bodies to governments on climate change, can integrate health into climate policy, planning, financing and implementation.
This event, held in the South Africa Pavilion at COP31, builds on the ICCN’s seven-month project to develop best-practice guidance, including its pilot Climate-Health Framework. The session will be framed by three discussion themes: climate change as a public health challenge, building climate-resilient health systems, and financing the climate and health agenda. Case studies from South Africa, Nigeria, Malta, Canada and the UK will explore how councils are already advising governments on the climate-health nexus.
Speakers for this session to be announced soon.
Please note: Attendees must have official UNFCCC accreditation to access the Blue Zone at COP31. This event is held in a Pavilion, so seating will be first-come first-served.
The International Climate Councils Network (ICCN) supports and amplifies the work of our members: 31 expert bodies officially mandated to advise their governments on climate policy.
The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) is a statutory body appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa and established under the Climate Change Act, 2024 (Act No 22 of 2024). Its purpose is to oversee and facilitate South Africa's just and equitable transition towards a low-emissions and climate-resilient economy.
