​Co-created by long term collaborators and friends Archie Elliot and Dinarta Abreu the pair explore the interplay between recorded music and live performance in their debut showcase ‘Listening as a state of Being’.

​The Story I Told My-Self

​The showcase will be split into two sections, the first will premiere Archie Elliot’s (artistically known as ‘Arch’) debut album ‘The Story I told My-Self’. Arch is known in the London music scene as one of the two bandleaders of Jazz Hip-Hop outfit ‘Sonic Daze’, a competent studio producer, enigmatic rap storyteller and a djembe enthusiast. Arch’s debut project combines all his musical outputs and fuses them to a mythopoetic framework heavily inspired by Joseph Campbell’s concept of the heroes journey.

​Arch will introduce his half with a 20 minute discussion on the process of making as well as the narrative framework used to construct the album, he will then play the project in full. Listeners will be given a printed programme of the lyrics to fully immerse in the story and encourage a more active state of listening.

​Batida

​After a short break Dinarta Abreu will then introduce Bitada her evening of music, rhythm and prayer celebrating the sacred rhythm of being alive.

​Honouring the joys of coming together as one and sharing a collective “Batida”, the very pulse and essence of creativity that runs through us all. From the Mandinka rhythms of West Africa to enchanting prayers from the Amazon; The sounds of Resistance and liberation of Capoeira (AfroBrazilianMartial Art), and of course, not forgetting the folkloric essence of Dinarta’s native land of Madeira.
