COCOON - An Orchestra Sleepover Concert
The Experience ~~~
COCOON is San Francisco’s first ever orchestra sleepover concert - an invitation to spend a historic night immersed in strings, winds, horns, percussion and voice 🎶
You will be sleeping on a camping cot arranged in a cocoon-like formation while members of the Magik*Magik Orchestra perform all around you.
Celebrate 18 years of Magik*Magik Orchestra and let us serenade you into restful slumber together in community 💙
The Low Down ~~~
9:30 PM: doors open, giving you time to enjoy a warm welcome beverage, choose and settle into your cozy sleeping space, and prepare to rest into the evening. We highly recommend you to arrive already dressed in your Pjs as changing space is limited on site.
10:30 PM: the orchestra will open with a one-hour concert featuring music by some of Magik*Magik's favorite collaborators including Zoë Keating, Hauschka, Dustin O'Halloran, Death Cab for Cutie, Christina Vantzou, and more.
Around 11:30 PM, the concert gently transitions into a guided meditation designed to prepare everyone for sleep. Please turn off your phone at this time, to be fully present and to relax.
Starting at midnight, soloists from Magik will take turns performing continuously for 7 hours. Musicians will be embedded amongst the sleeping guests, performing meditative improvisations over ambient pieces created especially for COCOON by Christina Vantzou.
As dawn approaches, 11 members of the orchestra will slowly return, one by one, culminating in a final sunrise performance composed by Minna Choi.
Timed precisely with the official sunrise in San Francisco, this 26-minute orchestral work will reach its final note at 7:01 AM, the moment the sun rises over the city on September 27, 2026. Like the sunrise itself on this specific morning, this composition will only be performed one time and never again.
Welcome to COCOON 🎻💙🎻
