About Event

Come join in an evening of spoken poetry and community agriculture with Aparna Paul, who will be performing poetry excerpts from her debut book, HOME FREE. This event is part of her national book tour, and she will be joined by local DMV poets Rachel Yu, Alexis Foxworth, Youssef Mohamed, Ana Jaramillo, and Caleope Meraki! We will explore our connection to our past, our land, and our future.

This event is hosted by Temperance Alley Garden. Temperance Alley Garden is a temporary outdoor classroom, community gathering place, and shared backyard. It’s been stewarded by community members since 2021.

HOME FREE is a work of weaving. Weaving personal anecdote, family lore, collective history, fast food drive-thru & heritage home cooking, the dinner table & the house party, this language’s capacity to harm & heal, snakes & more snakes, this collection refuses to hold one truth at a time. These poems and their speaker don’t belong exactly anywhere; rather, they seek home in new ways: in people, in memory, in an open invitation to find yourself everywhere.

DC Climate Week is not responsible for this event. It is organized by the organizing group, and being listed on the DCCW calendar is not an endorsement of content or partners.
