Fireside Chat with Karan Batta
At twenty-something, Karan Batta had already lived the dream: a Universal Music Group publishing deal (with Dr. Dre, Tupac, and DMX estate), work on Conan O’Brien’s Warner Bros. stage, and scripts championed by Funny or Die and Kevin Hart’s Three Arts Entertainment.
Then, in 2019, a sudden illness left him days from death. His liver failed. His body collapsed. What followed wasn’t an ending; it was a creative rebirth.
In this conversation, Karan reveals how his “afterlife” re-anchored his art, ambition, and humanity. From rap to screenwriting, from hospitals to Hollywood, he reframed pain into purpose, proving that mastery begins where control ends. His journey now stands as a modern parable of resilience, perspective, and the courage to keep creating when nothing seems certain.
Member Highlight - David Tran and Dan King
David Tran is an amazing builder with a diverse background. He started his career as a software engineer at Uber, and later shifted to investing through his boutique private equity firm. He then cofounded and continues to operate xFusion in 2019, an operating consulting firm for startups. In early 2025, he founded Prime Path Advisory, ensuring high-income earners pay as little tax as legally required. Prime Path does this by educating clients on the available tax strategies and, based on their preferences, customizing and implementing a tax plan suited to each individual. Prime Path has been in business for 6 months and has already reached $600K in revenue through organic growth. David expects to grow Prime Path into an 8-figure business within the next few years. During this tremendous growth era, NOA not only actively connects the right talent for its expansion but also wants to highlight this achievement.
Dan King is the Managing Director of Emerson Family Office, focusing on developing strategies and risk management for CPAs and high-net-worth individuals. Through his broker-dealer, he also supports founders with fundraising and investments for his clients. Dan always brings the best energy and has been extremely collaborative within the NOA community. He recently connected with David Tran and immediately established a partnership through Emerson's Solidaris program, which empowers investors to be catalysts for positive societal impact, achieving financial returns while driving change for those less fortunate.
NOA is a private community of founders, investors, and creators dedicated to exploring human potential and creative mastery through intentional gatherings that bridge intellect, art, and capital.
This Salon will be hosted at the Beverly Hills residence of Alex Ok, the visionary who built the global fast-fashion supply chain behind Forever 21. Set within a hillside estate that feels equal parts atelier and sanctuary, Alex’s home offers a rare backdrop of quiet grandeur for a night of reflection, connection, and conscious creation.
Join us as we explore what founders, artists, and investors alike can learn from near-death clarity: that the true measure of success is not what we build, but how consciously we live while building it. Being creative as a way of being is the true luxury in life.
