Together, let us rediscover a remarkable story of cross-cultural solidarity, military genius, and an unwavering moral compass that linked the old Grand Duchy of Lithuania to the birth of the American Republic.
Long before he became an American Revolutionary War general and the brilliant mind behind the fortifications of West Point, Thaddeus Kosciuszko was born on Belarusian soil. Deeply proud of his roots, he famously identified himself in wartime correspondence as a true Litwin.
Kosciuszko did not just build the impregnable redoubts that turned the tide at Saratoga; he shocked the Founding Fathers by using his entire American inheritance to fund the emancipation and education of enslaved Black Americans—setting a moral precedent that predated the Abolition Movement by nearly a century.
