Much of the computing history has been dominated by one sense. Vision. Everything must be seen or heard. As computers become smaller and cheaper we'll see them be more ubiquitous than ever and more ingrained in our lives.
But our life isn't just constrained to one or two senses. We see, hear, touch, smell and taste things. A scent can carry an entire memory before you've consciously registered it. The world communicates with us in all senses.
We only look at computers right now, but a world where computers are multi-sensory (much like our natural environment) would open up so many possibilities for unique human computer interactions.
Computers are also constrained to utilitarian objects. Our world on the other hand, offers a healthy mix of environments, that offer tangible benefits, but intangible benefits too (think about a flower, we love it, but does it have a tangible value attached to it?).
What does it mean to have intangible intelligent computing objects? Those not designed to maximize productivity, but to build a healthier connection with ourselves and our loved ones.
Join us for the Era Labs Research Showcase, as we present prototypes that answer these questions in fun and unique ways.
