​Your Face Is Not a Free Asset: Image-Based Rights,  Deepfakes and Safety by Design

​AI can now replicate a person’s likeness — their face, body or voice — with increasing realism. But what happens when this is done without their knowledge or consent?

Drawing on her recent exploration into image-based rights and digital safety, Ula Ojiaku examines the growing challenge of AI-generated deepfakes and image-based abuse—harms that disproportionately affect women and girls. This interactive session will explore gaps in current protections, emerging international approaches and what meaningful safety by design should require from technology providers, policymakers and organisations.
Participants will consider real-world scenarios and help identify practical priorities for protecting identity, dignity and agency in the age of generative AI.

Uloaku (Ula) Ojiaku is the Founder and CEO of Mezahab Group – an AI strategy, transformation and governance firm. She advises boards and senior leaders on responsible AI adoption and contributes to national and international initiatives involving AI governance, safety and public policy.
