Minds in Transit: Science Fiction, Biology, and the Future of Intelligence - Open Registration
Joan Slonczewski — renowned microbiologist, feminist science fiction author, and longtime explorer of the boundary between science and speculative futures — joins us at Frontier Tower for an intimate evening of ideas, storytelling, and conversation.
Joan will present a talk inspired by the one she’s giving earlier that week at UC Davis, exploring themes at the intersection of biology, intelligence, ethics, and science fiction, followed by a reading from her latest novel, Minds in Transit.
This event is especially relevant for anyone working in or curious about:
Artificial intelligence and emergent intelligence
Neurotech, biohacking, and synthetic biology
Science fiction as a lens for real-world technological change
Ethics, agency, and futures shaped by science
This event is co-hosted and community-forward — expect a thoughtful crowd, lively discussion, and space for both deep questions and casual mingling.
If you’re interested in how science fiction and real-world science inform each other — or just want to spend an evening with one of the genre’s most influential thinkers — we’d love to have you.
This event is hosted at the Frontier Tower:
We are transforming a 16-floor tower in San Francisco into a self-governed vertical village—a hub for frontier technologies and creative arts. Tier-one labs presenting AI, Ethereum, biotech, neuroscience, longevity, robotics, human flourishing, and arts & music. These floors will house innovators and creators pushing the boundaries of human potential in a post-AI-singularity world.
