Cyanotype Sun Prints with Frida Rodriguez
Join us for a perfect summer afternoon exploring the art of cyanotype— creating stunning blue prints using the sunlight.
In this session, we’ll be joined & inspired by artist Frida Rodriguez, experimenting with cyanotyping both images and found objects.
If you’re unfamiliar— cyanotype is a sustainable printing method that captures images of 2D and 3D objects on paper using UV rays. Check out our pinterest board of examples here!
Prior to the session, you’ll send in a photo of your choice for Frida to turn into a transparency film for you to print with <3 Each person will leave with up to two 9x12 cyanotype prints, and everything you need to know to do it again and again.
What we’ll demo, but prep for you:
Preparing paper to make cyanotype prints
Properly prepping your images to cyanotype print with
What you’ll learn & put into practice:
Composing your cyanotypes
Exposing* your cyanotypes
Washing and treating your prints
We’ll also cover creative ways you can transform your prints once they dry, and each guest will have the opportunity to leave with a set of buttons to add a button frame to their piece once it dries at home <3
*please note, this event is not weather dependent, and in the case of a cloudy or rainy day, we will expose your prints for you with a UV lamp!
All materials are provided. However please feel free to bring items from home you’d like to experiment printing with such as dried flowers, keys, textiles, etc!
Complimentary bevvies provided, and snacks will be available for purchase.
See you there!
What can I expect from a project at RecCreate?
Projects are the perfect chance to finally make that thing you saved on tiktok or pinned months ago, where all you have to do is show up! We curate the coolest materials and walk you through it step by step. Naturally, you leave with the sickest me-made piece for yourself or as the sweetest gift. Projects are a great opportunity to try out a new craft without having to invest in all of the materials, alongside other creative humans. These are not highly technical workshops— our emphasis is on craft, self expression and creative empowerment.
As with all RecCreate events, you can expect to go on this journey with a room full of lovely strangers. We’ll offer opportunities for connection throughout our time— encouraging the spirit of the collective. It is (so) much more fun to get to create together.
