Monetary Sovereignty: Who Controls the Payment Infrastructure?
Currencies and payment infrastructures have become a key area of geopolitical competition. Divergent sanctions regimes, Europe’s dependence on non-European card networks and payment platforms, and the increasing fragmentation of world trade demonstrate that the question of who controls the monetary infrastructure has long been a matter of strategic sovereignty.
In our strategic discussion, we will bring together senior experts, including Shahin Vallee, Europe Center, DGAP, with the HoFT members to reflect on how one’s own company is affected and to identify a starting point for individual strategic decisions.
