Your Schema Is Lying to Your LLM
Jim Castillo, Head of Engineering/Co-Founder, Fixlane
A dashboard told us 401 cars were stuck in our shops over 30 days. The real number was 102, and 83 of those were already repaired and had not been picked up. The SQL was valid. It filtered out three workflow statuses that do not exist in our database, so it excluded nothing. No LLM wrote that filter. A human did, months ago, using the words the schema itself uses in its column names.
Then we pointed an NL-to-SQL agent at that same schema, and it started producing confidently wrong answers at scale. The talk is about what we had to build so it stopped: naming the concepts, curated views, a read-only tool allowlist, an audit log, and a golden eval set. All of it on MotherDuck, built by one person. The short version: the trust layer belongs in the warehouse, not the prompt.
Grappling with context: Making Agents Business Aware
Bev (Verna) Turnbaugh, Customer Engineer, at MotherDuck
Connecting agents to business knowledge has become a prominent problem as more and more data exploration and reporting becomes the domain of agentic AI. Even if there is disagreement on how to convey that business logic, everyone agrees the contextual layer is a must have tool in the toolbox. Join us for a discussion of the various methodologies being used to solve the problem and MotherDuck’s ideas on how to make Agents an integral part of your team. Bring your ideas and thoughts, we will be having an interactive chat on what people are experiencing
