TAKING ACTION FOR THE TIJUANA RIVER - Tire Cleanup Day/TOMANDO ACCIÓN POR EL RÍO TIJUANA - Jornada de limpieza
WILDCOAST, together with local partners and community members, will lead a major cleanup of waste tires from the main channel of the Tijuana River.
Thousands of discarded tires threaten the river, surrounding ecosystems, and communities on both sides of the U.S.– Mexico border. Removing these tires is an important step toward preventing pollution in Tijuana and from reaching the border and the Pacific Ocean.
Participants will help restore a damaged river channel, document the waste removed, and elevate public awareness of the Tijuana River pollution crisis. By showcasing measurable impact, strong partnerships, and community leadership, the event aims to inspire long‑term stewardship and serve as a replicable model for future conservation efforts.
This is more than a cleanup — it’s a powerful demonstration of what cross‑sector collaboration can achieve. With participation from CANACINTRA, the Burnham Center, Coca‑Cola, CONAGUA, the Baja California Secretariat of Environment, and local universities, the initiative will highlight how collective action can protect a watershed that millions of people and countless species depend on.

COSTASALVAJE (WILDCOAST), junto con socios locales y miembros de la comunidad, liderará una gran jornada de limpieza de llantas de desecho en el cauce principal del río Tijuana.
Miles de llantas desechadas amenazan el río, los ecosistemas circundantes y a las comunidades de ambos lados de la frontera entre México y EE. UU. Retirar estas llantas representa un paso clave para evitar la contaminación en Tijuana y prevenir que esta llegue a la frontera y al océano Pacífico.
Las y los participantes ayudarán a restaurar el cauce de un río dañado, documentarán los residuos recolectados y visibilizarán la crisis de contaminación del río Tijuana. Al demostrar un impacto medible, alianzas sólidas y liderazgo comunitario, este evento busca inspirar el cuidado ambiental a largo plazo y servir como un modelo replicable para futuras iniciativas de conservación.
Esto es más que una simple limpieza: es una poderosa muestra de lo que se puede lograr mediante la colaboración intersectorial. Con la participación de CANACINTRA, el Burnham Center, Coca-Cola, CONAGUA, la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente de Baja California y universidades locales, la iniciativa pondrá en evidencia cómo la acción colectiva puede proteger una cuenca de la que dependen millones de personas y miles de especies.
