Have you ever heard a song and felt like someone was telling a piece of your own story?
That’s what Songs & Symbols is about.
It’s an intimate live concert experience built around connection. Between artist and audience, between music and personal stories, and sometimes between someone else’s experience and something we recognize within ourselves.
The Artists
For Vol. 3, three artists with different backgrounds, stories and musical worlds will share the stage:
🎶 Dear Dree — French folk artist based in Lisbon, writing in both French and English
🎶 RAFA — Brazilian singer-songwriter based in Lisbon
🎶 Lee Squires — Originally from Essex, former filmmaker and now Lisbon bar owner, whose songwriting never really left him
Each artist will perform a selection of their original songs.
But we don’t stop when the song ends.
Between performances, we sit down together and explore what lives behind the music.
Why did you write this song?
What happened in your life?
What did you feel?
What hurt?
What changed you?
And what found its way into the lyrics without you even realizing it?
We talk about love, loss, fear, belonging, hope, identity and transformation. Whatever has shaped the person and their music.
We also explore the symbols and images that appear throughout their songs and what they might mean within their personal journey.
And somewhere in that conversation, something beautiful can happen.
Maybe you’ve never lived the artist’s story, but you know the feeling.
Maybe a lyric reminds you of someone.
Maybe you recognize your own heartbreak in theirs.
Or maybe a song suddenly means something completely different once you know where it came from.
That’s the connection we’re interested in.
Not analyzing music from a distance, but coming closer to the human being who created it and discovering how deeply personal stories can become something universal.
On September 27, we’re bringing Songs & Symbols Vol. 3 to FORKLORE Coffee in Graça. Together with Afreen & Wolfgang, we’ll transform the space into an intimate stage for one evening.
