【Group Exhibition】Beyond Tokonoma / 超☆床の間 — Contemporary Japanese Art × Bonsai
Beyond Tokonoma / 超☆床の間 is a group exhibition of contemporary Japanese art and bonsai.
At the heart of the exhibition is a simple question:
How can traditions be reconsidered as forms of expression that continue to evolve in the present?
Rather than treating tradition as something fixed in the past, Beyond Tokonoma looks at practices such as Japanese painting, sumi ink, ceramics, and bonsai as living forms that continue to change through the hands of contemporary practitioners.
Alongside them, the exhibition presents newer forms of expression, including digital, video, and bio-art.
By bringing together works with different materials, histories, technologies, and temporalities, the exhibition explores how traditional and emerging forms of expression can be seen anew when placed in the same contemporary space.

The exhibition opens on September 18, and for general visitors we recommend visiting from September 19 onward.
From September 19–25, feel free to drop in anytime during opening hours.
🌱 Bonsai Workshop
Hands-on bonsai workshops will also be held during the exhibition.
No prior experience is required. Participants will learn the basics directly from a bonsai artist while creating their own bonsai in a small-group setting.

「伝統を現代の表現として捉え直し、新しい表現とともにその可能性を探る。」
Beyond Tokonoma / 超☆床の間は、現代アートと盆栽によるグループ展です。
今回の展示では、伝統を過去の様式として固定されたものではなく、現在も実践者によって変化し、更新され続ける表現として捉えます。
日本画、水墨画、陶芸、盆栽など、受け継がれてきた技法や文化に加え、映像・デジタル・バイオアートなどの新しい表現を一つの空間で提示します。
異なる素材、歴史、技術、時間軸を持つ表現を同じ場所に置くことで、それぞれを別の角度から捉え直し、伝統と新しい表現のこれからの可能性を探ります。

🌱 盆栽ワークショップ
会期中は、実際に自分の手で盆栽をつくる少人数制の盆栽ワークショップも開催します。
初めての方でもご参加いただけます。 盆栽師から直接基本を学びながら、自分だけの盆栽を制作していただく体験です。
