Climate & Chill: A BGE Lakeside Picnic

​Join Black Girl Environmentalist (BGE) during Chicago’s first Climate Week for an afternoon of climate trivia, community, and outdoor connection at the lakefront.

​While BGE centers Black women and gender-expansive people in the environmental movement, this Chicago Climate Week event is open to everyone. People of all identities and backgrounds are warmly invited to join us.

​This gathering is an opportunity to slow down, connect with others interested in climate and environmental issues, and enjoy one of Chicago’s valuable natural spaces. We’ll test our climate knowledge through fun trivia games, spend time outdoors, and reflect on the importance of protecting the public spaces that make Chicago special.

​Our gathering will take place at Promontory Point, a beloved lakefront park currently facing a major reconstruction project. Existing plans would remove its historic limestone revetment, replace it with new construction, and close the Point for several years. Community advocates have proposed an alternative approach that would repair and preserve the limestone while allowing the Point to remain open. By gathering here, we hope to appreciate this unique place and bring attention to what could be lost when communities are not meaningfully included in decisions about their natural and public spaces.

​Snacks will be provided, and attendees are also encouraged to bring any snacks or beverages they would enjoy. Please bring a towel, blanket, or portable chair to sit on.

​We’ll be set up on the north side of the Point, facing the Chicago skyline. Look for the BGE banner to find us!
